Final Fantasy XIV Online Becomes the Largest Game on Nintendo Switch 2

Following its official reveal during Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Germany, Square Enix has begun opening digital pre-orders for Final Fantasy XIV Online on the Nintendo eShop ahead of the game’s August 4 launch.

Alongside the pre-orders, the publisher has also confirmed the game’s installation size—and it’s setting a new record for Nintendo Switch 2.

A Massive 117GB Download

According to the Nintendo eShop listing, Final Fantasy XIV Online will require 117GB of storage space, making it the largest game currently available on Nintendo Switch 2.

The MMORPG’s install size also consumes well over half of the console’s built-in storage, meaning players planning to adventure across Eorzea may want to free up space before launch.

Square Enix Now Holds the Top Three Spots

With Final Fantasy XIV Online taking the top position, Square Enix now occupies all three spots among the largest Nintendo Switch 2 games by file size.

The current rankings are:

  1. Final Fantasy XIV Online – 117GB
  2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – 102GB
  3. Final Fantasy VII Remake – 90.5GB

The list could eventually change, however. Upcoming titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 may challenge those numbers, although it remains unclear how Activision will optimize the game for Nintendo’s hybrid hardware, especially as newer Call of Duty releases increasingly rely on streaming technologies and modular downloads on other platforms.
