Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Focuses Only on Edward Story

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Will Not Include Freedom Cry Story
Original DLC content has been completely removed
This mid-year is shaping up to be exciting for fans of the Assassin’s Creed series, as another major title is set to release not long after last year’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows. That game is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. However, during its reveal event, many noticed the absence of trailers or mentions of Freedom Cry and Aveline, which were special story expansions in the original version.
There is a reason behind this.
The development team confirmed through GamesRadar that this remake will not include any of the original DLC story content, nor will it feature the multiplayer mode. The intention is for Resynced to focus entirely on the story of Edward Kenway, which has been the plan from the beginning. As a result, both Freedom Cry and Aveline content will not appear in this remake.
However, the story in this reimagined version will be fully redesigned from start to finish.
This means Edward’s journey will not only retell the original main storyline but will also introduce new perspectives and previously unseen narrative elements. It represents a reinterpretation suited for 2026, making it distinct from the original 2013 release.
That said, players who still want to experience Freedom Cry can do so in the original version of the game, as Ubisoft has confirmed that the original release will remain available and will not be removed from stores.
About Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Players take on the role of Edward Kenway, a pirate who eventually joins the Assassin Brotherhood and later becomes the father of Haytham Kenway, a key character in Assassin’s Creed III.
Set in the golden age of piracy, including locations such as Havana, the game features thrilling naval combat, treasure hunting, and open-world exploration. The remake is rebuilt using the Anvil Engine, delivering enhanced visuals and modernized gameplay.
The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on July 9.
About Freedom Cry and Aveline Content
The Freedom Cry storyline takes place 15 years after the main story, putting players in the role of Adéwalé, a former slave who gains freedom and becomes an Assassin. This expansion offers approximately four hours of additional gameplay.
Meanwhile, the Aveline content consists of shorter missions set across different time periods. Both expansions connect to other titles in the series, including Rogue and Liberation.
