Resident Evil Producer Says Remake Sales Help Fund Future Games

Capcom’s successful Resident Evil remake series isn’t just about bringing classic survival horror titles to modern platforms. According to one of the franchise’s producers, the commercial success of these remakes also plays an important role in funding future projects across the company.

In an interview highlighted by Nintendo Everything from Game Informer, the producer discussed how remakes have become a valuable part of Capcom’s long-term development strategy while working on Resident Evil Veronica.

More Than Just Revisiting the Classics

The producer explained that creating brand-new Resident Evil entries is a demanding process that takes significant time and resources. Developing remakes allows the studio to revisit beloved titles while introducing them to a new generation of players with modern visuals and gameplay improvements.

However, the team emphasized that remakes are not simply stopgap releases between major installments. Instead, each project is treated with the same level of care and quality expected from a flagship Resident Evil title, with Resident Evil 4 Remake cited as a strong example of that philosophy.

Helping Finance Future Projects

Beyond giving players access to updated versions of classic games, remake sales also generate revenue that helps support the development of future Capcom titles.

According to the producer, income from Resident Evil remakes contributes not only to upcoming entries in the Resident Evil series but also to other projects under the Capcom umbrella, including the long-awaited Pragmata.

The approach allows Capcom to continue investing in both established franchises and entirely new experiences while maintaining a steady release schedule.

About Resident Evil Veronica

Resident Evil Veronica serves as the official continuation of Resident Evil 2, following Claire Redfield as she continues her search for her brother, Chris Redfield.

Her journey leads her to a remote prison island operated by Umbrella, where a viral outbreak has transformed the facility into a nightmare filled with zombies and other horrifying creatures. Together with fellow survivor Steve Burnside, Claire must fight to escape while uncovering the island’s dark secrets.

Resident Evil Veronica is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
