CAPCOM Issues Legal Warning Over 18+ Resident Evil Requiem Mods

CAPCOM Takes Action! Sends Warning to YouTuber Over 18+ Resident Evil Requiem Mods

Channel owner addresses the situation in a new video

It’s a situation that often arises when video games are released on open platforms like PC, where modding communities thrive. Players frequently modify game content, and developers may have varying stances on whether to support or restrict such activities. CAPCOM’s titles, especially the popular Resident Evil franchise, have long been a major target for modders.

Recently, YouTube channel GrizzoUK revealed in a video that they received a formal warning letter from CAPCOM’s legal team, demanding that they completely stop نشرing mod-related videos for Resident Evil Requiem. As a result, the creator confirmed they will no longer upload modded Resident Evil content, although they will continue producing videos for other franchises such as Stellar Blade and Tomb Raider.

In the past, CAPCOM’s stance on modding has often seemed unclear. Many modded videos have remained accessible online, including content that significantly alters gameplay or showcases unreleased materials like Resident Evil 1.5. However, there have also been strict enforcement cases, such as when Invader Games was forced to shut down their fan remake of Resident Evil 2 using assets from The Darkside Chronicles, as well as projects like CODE: Veronica – Remake built in Unity.

What makes the GrizzoUK case particularly notable is that the warning explicitly referenced content that leaned toward sexual or explicit themes. This marks one of the first times CAPCOM has shown clear disapproval toward character model modification mods with NSFW elements. From a broader perspective, it also raises concerns about the ethics of using character likenesses in inappropriate or altered contexts without consent.

As discussions continue, this case may signal a shift in how CAPCOM handles modding—especially when it crosses into controversial territory. What do you think about this situation?
