Song of Kings Free Demo Launches on Steam, Bringing Sri Lankan Mythology to PC

Inspired by Sri Lankan mythology, the narrative-driven puzzle-platformer invites players to explore a beautiful and mysterious world ahead of its full release later this year.

Sri Lankan independent game studio Mogo Games has released the first playable demo for its upcoming title, Song of Kings, on Steam.

The game follows Yakshira, a young Yaksha boy who is captured after wandering too far from his homeland. Trapped inside a dangerous human kingdom ruled by a ruthless king, he must find a way to escape and return to his people.

The free demo gives players their first opportunity to step into Yakshira’s world, experience the game’s flute-based mechanics, solve environmental puzzles, avoid dangerous enemies, and discover the beginning of his journey.

Begin Yakshira’s Journey

Guided by the spirit of his grandfather and carrying a magical flute, Yakshira must travel through an unfamiliar and dangerous world in search of a way home.

Along the way, players will explore mystical forests, ruined temples, dark dungeons, human settlements, and ancient locations inspired by Sri Lankan mythology and folklore.

Each environment holds its own secrets, challenges, and fragments of Yakshira’s heritage waiting to be discovered.

Music Is the Key to Survival

Yakshira’s magical flute plays an important role throughout the game.

Players can discover hidden melodies and use them to interact with the environment, awaken ancient mechanisms, reveal secrets, and open new paths.

But using the flute also comes with risks.

Guards and creatures can react to the sounds Yakshira creates, meaning players must carefully decide when to use music and when it is safer to remain silent.

Puzzle Platforming, Exploration, and Stealth

Song of Kings brings together puzzle platforming, exploration, and stealth within a stylized fantasy world.

Players will need to observe their surroundings, use objects in the environment, discover hidden routes, and find creative ways to avoid enemies and move forward.

A journal also records the locations, stories, folklore, and discoveries found throughout Yakshira’s journey.
