Google has announced a major upgrade to AI Mode, allowing users to connect and interact with popular third-party applications directly from the chat interface. The new feature transforms AI Mode from a traditional search tool into a more capable digital assistant that can help users complete real-world tasks without constantly switching between apps.
The initial rollout includes support for well-known services such as Instacart, Canva, and YouTube, with Google planning to expand compatibility with additional partners in the future.
Complete Everyday Tasks Without Leaving the Chat
One of the biggest improvements is AI Mode’s ability to perform actions on connected services. For example, users planning a barbecue can simply tell AI Mode what ingredients they need, and it will automatically prepare an Instacart shopping cart that’s ready for checkout.
Creative users can also take advantage of Canva integration by asking AI Mode to find presentation templates, design flyers, or assist with ongoing creative projects directly from the conversation.
Music lovers aren’t left out either. AI Mode can generate playlists for different occasions and save them directly to YouTube Music, making it easier to organize entertainment without manually opening multiple apps.
Google Takes on AI Rivals
The update represents Google’s latest effort to strengthen AI Mode as a true productivity assistant. Rather than simply answering questions, the service now helps users accomplish tasks across multiple applications, bringing it closer to competing AI platforms that already support external integrations.
By partnering with established services, Google aims to make AI Mode a central hub for planning, shopping, creativity, and entertainment within its growing AI ecosystem.
Rolling Out First in the United States
The connected apps feature is currently rolling out to users in the United States, with additional integrations expected to arrive over time. Google says it will continue expanding AI Mode’s capabilities by adding support for more commonly used services.
The update builds upon previous AI Mode enhancements introduced since early 2025, including local product availability checks, side-by-side web comparisons, and Personal Intelligence features that utilize information from Gmail and Google Photos to deliver more personalized responses.
With connected apps now joining those capabilities, Google is taking another significant step toward making AI Mode a comprehensive AI assistant capable of not only understanding user requests but also taking action on their behalf.
