OpenAI has announced a major update for ChatGPT, introducing new GPT-5.6 models designed to make everyday conversations smoother, more accurate, and more efficient.
The update introduces GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna, alongside expanded access to advanced features for general users.
GPT-5.6 Sol Focuses on Accuracy
ChatGPT Plus and Pro users will gain access to the improved GPT-5.6 Sol model, which focuses on improving the accuracy of information and factual responses.
According to OpenAI, the updated model can reduce errors involving numbers, dates, and references by up to 68 percent compared with the previous version.
The update also introduces a new thinking-level slider, allowing users to control how much time the AI spends analyzing information before producing an answer.
Free Users Get GPT-5.6 Luna
Free users will also receive an upgrade this week, with GPT-5.6 Luna becoming the default model.
The model is designed to allow unlimited text-based conversations. OpenAI also plans to introduce a Think button next week, giving free users the option to ask the AI to use more advanced processing when handling difficult or complex questions.
More Direct and Focused Responses
OpenAI says the latest improvements are focused on making responses more concise and directly relevant to the user’s request.
For simple questions, the system will aim to provide quick and straightforward answers without unnecessary information or complicated formatting.
For more complicated tasks that require multiple steps, the system is designed to provide clearer guidance that is easier to follow.
Additional Safety Measures for Younger Users
The update also places additional emphasis on protecting users under the age of 18.
According to OpenAI, the models have been trained to avoid romantic roleplay, dangerous activities, and presenting themselves as substitutes for real-world relationships.
Additional boundaries have also been introduced around violent content and eating-related behavior.
OpenAI’s latest changes are aimed at making advanced AI capabilities more widely accessible while improving the overall quality, clarity, and safety of ChatGPT.
The new capabilities can be accessed through the ChatGPT website and mobile applications.
