Google Updates Android Developer Verification Plan to Improve App Safety

Google has shared new progress on its Android developer verification measures, a major step aimed at improving platform security for users around the world.

Google is gradually rolling this service out automatically to devices running Android 8 and above during this month. The service will check whether an app has been registered by a verified developer.

This means verification will not only happen at the store level. Instead, the checking process can happen deeper inside the Android operating system, giving users another layer of protection against suspicious apps.

Limited Distribution Accounts Coming for Students and Hobbyists

Google is also preparing a more flexible option for students and amateur developers.

In July, the company will open early access to limited distribution accounts. These accounts are designed for testing, learning, and experimentation, especially for people who may not be ready to go through the full formal developer process.
