God of War Laufey Reveals Faye’s Epic PS5 Story

God of War Laufey Officially Revealed for PS5
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have officially announced God of War Laufey, a new spin-off in the God of War universe.
This time, the story puts Laufey, also known as Faye, at the center of the adventure. She is the wife of Kratos and the mother of Atreus, and this will be the first time players can experience her story as the main playable character.
God of War Laufey is planned for PlayStation 5. At this time, Sony has not yet announced an official release date.
A New Story in the Afterlife of the Gods
Death should have been the end, but for Laufey, it becomes the beginning of a new journey.
After her death and funeral, which players saw at the beginning of God of War in 2018, Faye mysteriously awakens in a strange land called Everywhen.
This realm serves as an afterlife world for the gods and is also described as the origin point of ancient magic.
However, after waking up in this place, Faye discovers that the plans she prepared to protect Kratos and Atreus after her death are now in danger.
To protect her family and the people she loves, Faye must take up arms again and fight through Everywhen, a dangerous land filled with powerful gods from different mythologies who are fighting for power.
Her goal is to uncover the secrets of this realm and find a way back home to her family.
Fast Combat Inspired by Greek and Norse Eras
Santa Monica Studio said its main goal is to keep the brutal and satisfying combat style of God of War, while adjusting the gameplay to match Faye’s own fighting style.
Combat in this game focuses on speed, control, and flow.
One of the most interesting parts is how the game combines the smooth movement and aerial attacks of the classic Greek era with the closer camera and character-focused storytelling of the Norse era.
Faye can move freely from the ground into the air, making her battles look faster and more dynamic than Kratos’ heavier combat style.
Faye’s Powers and the Legendary Sword
Faye will also receive help from Rue, a guardian of magical ribbons.
Through Rue, Faye can wield and release the power of her own legendary sword. She also carries an ancient ability as the Golden Hand of the Jotnar.
This power lets her control and attack spirits. Faye can strike enemies with her palm and force their spirits out of their bodies, opening the way for creative combos during battle.
New Companions and Famous Cast Members
Deborah Ann Woll, who played Faye in God of War Ragnarök, returns to provide voice acting and motion capture for the character.
Faye will not travel through Everywhen alone. She will meet 2 new companions during the story.
The first is Phranque, played by Jack Quaid from The Boys. Phranque is a strange living cosmic cube with an honest personality and a strong desire to protect his friends.
The second is Rue, played by Perlina Lau. Rue is the magical ribbon guardian who protects the sacred sword and keeps it away from evil gods.
Gods From Different Mythologies
Game director Ariel Lawrence and creative director Cory Barlog shared that they are excited to explore the humanity, strengths, and flaws of a character who has been famous in the story but has never been fully revealed before.
The world of Everywhen will also allow the game to show gods from different mythologies clashing with each other.
The first trailer already shows enemies such as Sekhmet, the bloodthirsty Egyptian goddess, and Begtse, a war god from Mongolian and Tibetan mythology.
For fans of God of War, this spin-off looks like a major new chapter that could finally reveal more about Faye’s untold story.
God of War Laufey sounds like one of the most exciting ways to expand the series. Faye has always felt important to the story, but players only knew her mostly through memory, prophecy, and the people she left behind. Giving her a full PS5 adventure in Everywhen could add more depth to the God of War universe while offering a faster, more aerial combat style that feels different from Kratos.
