The Witcher III Returns With Massive New DLC in 2027

The Witcher III Songs of the Past Finally Revealed

CD Projekt RED has officially announced a new story expansion for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. The new content is titled Songs of the Past and is currently planned for release in 2027.

The announcement came during the celebration of Blood and Wine, the beloved expansion that many fans still consider one of the strongest DLC releases in RPG history. This makes Songs of the Past especially exciting, since it marks a major return after more than 10 years.

The expansion will once again let players step into the role of Geralt, with development handled in collaboration with Fool’s Theory.

Geralt Returns in a New Story Expansion

For now, CD Projekt RED has not revealed the full story details for Songs of the Past. However, the team confirmed that more information will arrive in the future.

The source article notes that Fool’s Theory is involved in this new expansion. The team includes developers with previous game development experience and will support the project as part of the expanded production effort.

This new content will not arrive for every platform version of the game. Songs of the Past will support only PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

That means players on older console versions will not receive this new expansion.

Minimum PC Requirements Will Increase

Alongside the expansion news, CD Projekt RED also confirmed that the game’s minimum PC requirements will be updated.

The new minimum requirements for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt are listed as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400, or better
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB, or better
VRAM: 6 GB
RAM: 12 GB
Storage: 70 GB, with SSD required
OS: 64-bit Windows 11

These updated requirements will take effect from the next major update onward. The change aims to support new experiences and future game updates more smoothly.

One key detail is the move away from traditional hard disk support. Players will need an SSD to run the game properly under the updated requirements.

Windows 11 Becomes the New Standard

The source article also notes that Windows 11 will become part of the updated PC requirement. CD Projekt RED explained that this change should help the game run more efficiently going forward.

This adjustment also reflects the studio’s future direction. The article notes that Cyberpunk 2077 will also require Windows 11 as its minimum operating system in the future.

For players still using older hardware or older operating systems, this update may become an important reminder to check their setup before the next update arrives.

The Witcher III Remains a Modern RPG Landmark

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is already available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game also received a next-generation upgrade not long ago.

The open-world RPG follows Geralt, a monster hunter searching for a child of prophecy across dangerous lands, strange villages, large cities, and morally complex conflicts.

The game remains known for its meaningful choices, deep relationships, memorable characters, and rich world design. With Songs of the Past now confirmed, fans have another reason to return to the Continent.

The Witcher III: Songs of the Past is a huge surprise because the game already felt complete after Blood and Wine. Bringing Geralt back after more than 10 years gives fans a powerful reason to return, especially if the new expansion can match the emotional weight and world-building of the original DLCs. The higher PC requirements may disappoint some players, but they also suggest that CD Projekt RED wants this return to feel like a proper modern update.
