Ragnarok: The New World introduces a fresh take on the classic Ragnarok Online experience with its Job Freedom system, allowing players greater flexibility than ever before. Instead of being locked into a single playstyle, adventurers can explore the world with more freedom while enjoying a modern RO experience built upon over two decades of nostalgia.

If you’re just starting your journey, choosing the right class can make leveling and progressing through the early game much smoother. To help you get started, we’ve put together a beginner-friendly class tier list for July 2026.

Mage

Mage excels at dealing devastating area-of-effect magic damage, allowing players to clear monsters quickly while remaining effective in both PvE and group content.

A Tier

Archer

Archer offers reliable ranged DPS with excellent mobility. It performs well in most situations and remains a strong choice throughout progression.

Acolyte

Acolyte provides valuable healing and support abilities while still being capable of contributing meaningful damage. It’s an excellent pick for players who enjoy cooperative gameplay.

Druid

Druid offers a versatile toolkit that balances offense, support, and utility. While it requires a better understanding of its mechanics, it can perform exceptionally well in skilled hands.

B Tier

Swordsman

Swordsman remains a dependable frontline fighter with solid survivability, though it generally requires more investment before reaching its full potential.

Thief

Thief specializes in mobility and burst attacks but can be more difficult to master compared to other beginner-friendly classes.

Merchant

Merchant offers unique gameplay focused on economy and utility. While enjoyable for certain players, it currently falls behind the higher-ranked classes in overall combat performance.

Final Thoughts

If your goal is to progress efficiently during the early stages of the game, Gunslinger and Mage are currently the safest choices. However, Ragnarok: The New World’s Job Freedom system encourages experimentation, allowing players to discover the class that best matches their preferred playstyle regardless of tier rankings.
